WESTBROOK, Maine — A fugitive from Michigan described by police as violent was arrested in Westbrook on Tuesday morning after an eight-week investigation.

Dajuan A. Williams, 23, of Detroit was arrested about 9:25 a.m. on Larrabee Road after he was recognized by police officers handling an unrelated matter at Super 8 motel, Westbrook police Capt. Michael F. Nugent stated in a news release.

Williams led officers and a Westbrook police K-9 team on a brief foot pursuit. He reportedly was taken into custody after officers deployed their Tasers when he refused to submit to arrest.

At the time of his arrest in Westbrook, Williams was wanted on warrants from Michigan, Vermont and Maine on multiple charges, including aggravated assault, drug trafficking and domestic violence assault, Nugent said.

Williams was taken to Cumberland County Jail, where he is being held without bail as a fugitive from justice.

Nugent said Williams’ arrest was the result of the combined efforts of the Westbrook and Portland police departments, the Maine Violent Offenders Task Force and the Drug Enforcement Administration.

The matter remains under investigation and additional criminal charges are expected, Nugent said.
