RANGELEY, Maine — A man was rescued Wednesday night after his vehicle plummeted 50 feet into a gorge off of Route 4, according to officials.
Rangeley Fire Chief Tim Pellerin said it took rescuers from multiple departments nearly three hours to extricate the man from his mangled van.
Pellerin said the vehicle plummeted over a guardrail and into a gorge at Smalls Falls.
The man, whose name was not immediately available, survived.
Firefighters from Rangeley, Phillips, Farmington, Northstar EMS, Franklin County Technical Rescue and the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, Farmington police and state police all assisted.
