ORLAND, Maine — A 23-year-old Surry man died in a car crash Sunday night in Orland.

Peyton Webster was driving a 2000 Subaru Legacy south along Upper Falls Road in Orland around 10 p.m, according to Maine State Police Lt. Roderick Charette.

“He failed to negotiate a right-hand turn” and the car went off the left side of the road, rolled over and landed on its roof, Charette said.

Webster was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. A female passenger, whom police have not identified, was taken to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor. Charette said her injuries didn’t appear to be life-threatening.

Police say the investigation continues, but that speed appears to have been a factor. Charette said police don’t know whether the two were wearing seat belts.

The Hancock County Sheriff’s Office is reconstructing the crash.
