GRAY, Maine — Anyone dreaming of a white Christmas should keep dreaming, as temperatures were gradually climbing Christmas Eve morning, the National Weather Service reported.

Temperatures in the Bangor area were in the upper 40s early Thursday morning, with Bar Harbor already reaching the 50s, according to the weather service.

Temperatures in the southern part of the state were expected to be warmer, according to the weather service, with predictions of cracking 60 degrees in the Portland area by the end of the day.

Many cities and towns throughout Maine were expected to hit their warmest points by late Thursday afternoon, as rain and fog continue to move out of the area.
