PORTLAND, Maine — As holiday travelers hit the road last week, the average per-gallon price of gasoline in Maine continued to drop another 3 cents as the national average held steady at $2.
The price tracking website GasBuddy reported that Maine’s average price dropped to $2.08 per gallon Sunday, joining 37 other states that saw price declines during the past week.
The price in Maine was 39 cents lower than one year ago and 10 cents lower than one month ago.
Experts have tied the drop in prices to high production and lower seasonal demand during the winter months.
The lowest prices in the state Monday were $1.88 per gallon, led by membership retailers, such as Sam’s Club and BJ’s, and other stations that offer a lower price for cash transactions. The highest per-gallon price in the state Monday, according to GasBuddy data, was $2.32.
