PHOENIX, Arizona — Senior Jose Nouchanthavong scored a game-high 23 points to lead four players in double figures as the University of Southern Maine Huskies held off a late charge to defeat Loras College 86-80 in basketball action Monday at the Arizona Shootout at the Phoenix Convention Center.
Junior Atencio Martin added 16 points and 13 rebounds to secure a double-double, while classmate Zach Leal added 14 points, five rebounds three assists, four steals and a blocked shot for USM (6-5). Senior Aaron Toman added 11 points and four rebounds.
Junior Justin VanWambeke and freshman Ryan Dicanio each scored 15 points to pace Loras (4-6) of Dubuque, Iowa.
Toman scored nine of his 11 points in the first half to help USM grab a solid first-half lead.
