BANGOR, Maine — Bangor police have released the names of the two people involved in a Monday night crash that sent a man in an electric wheelchair to the hospital.
Gary Verrill, 70, was driving a 1998 GMC SUV south on Griffin Road about 5:30 p.m. when he struck a wheelchair operated in the road by Brent Steven Davis, 43, according to Bangor police Sgt. Tim Cotton.
Cotton said Tuesday it appears Davis was attempting to cross the road when he was struck, but he was not in a crosswalk. Verrill told police he didn’t see Davis because of the headlights from vehicles in the oncoming lane.
A spokeswoman for Eastern Maine Medical Center said Tuesday afternoon that Davis was still in the hospital, listed in fair condition.
Neither Verrill nor a passenger in the car with him were injured.
The crash remains under investigation.
