TOPSFIELD, Maine — Maine State Police say a man was killed Tuesday when he was struck by a vehicle while snowblowing his driveway.
The fatal crash was reported about 5:30 p.m. after the driver of a 2001 GMC Jimmy lost control on snow-covered Route 1 while traveling north in Washington County.
The vehicle struck Edgar Rhoades, 59, of Topsfield, who had been using his snowblower at the end of his driveway. Rhoades was killed instantly, according to state police spokesman Stephen McCausland.
The driver of the vehicle, John Moholland, 46, of Princeton, was checked for shoulder pain and then released by EMS at the scene. A female passenger in the vehicle was not injured. Both occupants were wearing seat belts.
It was snowing at the time of the crash, and weather and road conditions were factors in the incident, according to McCausland. Sgt. Jeffrey Ingemi, Trooper Chad Lindsey, Indian Township Fire and Rescue along with Calais Fire/EMS went to the scene.
