ALFRED, Maine — A York woman was indicted Wednesday by the York County grand jury on manslaughter and other charges in connection with a hit-and-run in August that killed a pedestrian.

Carolyn J. Lee, 22, was indicted on one count each of manslaughter, a Class A crime, operating under the influence of intoxicants that resulted in a death, a Class B crime, leaving the scene of an injury accident and reckless conduct with a weapon, meaning a vehicle, both Class C crimes.

Lee allegedly was driving a 2010 GMC Yukon that struck and killed Emily Zarnoch, 24, of Quincy, Massachusetts, about 12:30 a.m. Aug. 4. Zarnoch was walking with her boyfriend on Ridge Road in York when she was struck, according to a previously published report.

When first responders arrived, Zarnoch was unconscious. She was taken to a hospital in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, where she later died.

Lee remains free on $25,000 cash bail, according to personnel at the York County Jail in Alfred.

Her jury trial is scheduled for March 21, according to the York County court clerk’s office.

If convicted, Lee faces up to 30 years in prison and a fine of up to $50,000 on the manslaughter charge alone.
