AMHERST, Maine — Route 9 in Amherst was reopened to traffic after being temporarily closed when a car struck a utility pole and power lines fell onto the roadway, Maine Department of Public Safety spokesman Stephen McCausland said shortly before 6 p.m.
McCausland said the crash occurred around 3 p.m., and the road was closed for about two and a half hours.
The driver, 44-year-old Victor Bassett of Greenbush, apparently lost control of his vehicle in the heavy rain and struck the utility pole. Bassett suffered minor injuries and was taken to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor. Three passengers in Bassett’s vehicle were uninjured, McCausland said.
No charges are expected.
