OXFORD, Maine — Police are looking for a woman who walked into an Oxford pet store Saturday and stole a puppy.
An unknown woman walked into Mainely Puppies around 4 p.m. Saturday, and surveillance footage appears to show her taking a puppy from a crate, putting it in her jacket and leaving the store, according to Steve Mason, a dog breeder and the owner of Mainely Puppies.
The puppy is an eight-week-old cocker spaniel and poodle mix.
Mason was working alone at the time and it took him a few minutes to realize something was wrong.
“I saw an empty cage and thought where did this puppy go because I knew it was there,” Mason said.
After checking surveillance footage, Mason called police.
“I was totally shocked, “ he said. “I try to keep an eye on what’s going on.”
“I want her to get caught. I’d like to get the puppy back and find it a good home,” Mason said.
Anyone with information about the incident should call the Oxford Police Department at 207-539-4414.
