BANGOR, Maine — A winter storm that swept through Maine Saturday left behind a half a foot or more of snow in some areas and a thin skim of ice in others.
Some of the highest snowfall totals occurred in Hancock and Washington counties, where Bar Harbor, Eastport, Addison, Pembroke, Harrington, Columbia and Roque Bluffs all broke the 7 inch mark, the National Weather Service reported Sunday.
Parts of Penobscot, Knox, Androscoggin, Kennebec and Cumberland counties also saw measurable accumulation, with roughly half a foot falling in some cities and towns, including Lisbon Falls, South Thomaston and Old Town.
Aroostook and Piscataquis counties were spared the brunt of the storm, with only an inch or two of fresh snow.
More snow is on the way for some parts of the state, however. The National Weather Service’s Gray office has issued a hazardous weather outlook for Sunday night into Monday for southern and coastal Maine, where a light accumulations of snow is expected.
In Bangor, a downtown parking ban was put into effect from 11 p.m. Sunday through 7 a.m. Monday.
