CASTINE, Maine — The Colby College Mules turned in a strong shooting effort from the field to beat the Maine Maritime Academy Mariners 80-65 in men’s basketball action Tuesday night.
The Mules hit 28 of 48 shots (58.3 percent) from the field, including 8 of 20 (40 percent) from 3-point range.
Ryan Jann paced Colby (11-4) with 23 points, seven rebounds, three assists and two steals. Luke Westman and Joseph Connelly each chipped in with 13 points while Westman also had five rebounds and three assists. Sam Willson contributed 10 points and six rebounds.
Dylan Stevens recorded 15 points and four assists to lead the Mariners (3-11) of Castine. Dylan Price and Tyler Thayer each chipped in with eight points.
Jann led all players with 15 points in the first half, on 5-of-7 shooting from the floor. Stevens led the Mariners with 11 points, going a perfect 3-for-3 from the floor and 5-of-6 from the line.
Oklahoma St. 86, No. 3 Kansas 67
STILLWATER, Oklahoma — Oklahoma State coach Travis Ford scoffed at a pregame suggestion that his Cowboys had Kansas’ number.
“Oh no,” Ford fired back.
The number, however, doesn’t lie.
The Cowboys beat Kansas for a fourth straight season Tuesday night, this time stunning the No. 3 Jayhawks 86-67 at Gallagher-Iba Arena.
Oklahoma State, the only team to beat Kansas each of the past three seasons, had lost four straight games and were in danger of falling to .500 for the season. But freshman point guard Jawun Evans struck for a game-high 22 points, with eight assists and six rebounds to carry the Cowboys to the win, Oklahoma State’s third straight over the Jayhawks in Stillwater.
Guard Jeff Newberry added 13 points for the Cowboys, who hit a season-high 11 3-point shots.
Kansas point guard Frank Mason III led the Jayhawks with 14 points, while forward Perry Ellis added 13 and Devonte’ Graham 10.
Kansas made just 13 of 24 free throws.
The Cowboys improved to 10-8 overall, 2-4 in the Big 12. The Jayhawks fell to 15-3 4-2.
