DAMARISCOTTA, Maine — A Damariscotta man has been sentenced to 3 1/2 years in prison and 15 years of probation for sex crimes against four girls from 2011 to 2015.
Ronald J. Brann, 65, pleaded guilty to four counts of class B unlawful sexual contact at the Lincoln County Courthouse Monday, Jan. 11, according to court documents. Four counts of class D unlawful sexual touching were dismissed.
If Brann violates probation, he could return to prison for up to 10 1/2 more years, the suspended portion of his sentence. If he completes the first three years of probation successfully, the amount of possible further prison time would drop to six years.
His probation conditions prohibit contact with any juvenile and prohibit contact with the four victims, who will be adults by the time he completes probation.
Brann committed the crimes against four girls under the age of 12 in Damariscotta and Waldoboro from June 2011 to March 2015, according to court documents.
The Maine Department of Health and Human Services referred incidents involving three of the girls to the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, which arrested and charged Brann on April 2, 2015.
A Lincoln County grand jury indicted Brann on charges related to those girls and a fourth on May 13, 2015.
Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office Detective Scott Hayden was the investigating officer. Assistant District Attorney Katie Hollstrom represented the state at the conclusion of the case; former Assistant District Attorney Andrew Wright was the original prosecutor.
Bath attorney David Paris represented Brann.
Hollstrom called the resolution “an appropriate sentence given all the mitigating and aggravating factors.”
