MONMOUTH, Maine — Vehicles were smashed up after a car collided with a bus filled with children, creating a series of chain-reaction crashes in Monmouth.
Police say Tuesday afternoon there were four separate wrecks involving nine vehicles on Route 202.
Officers say in the first crash a bus was turning left. They say a woman driving behind the bus looked down at her phone to check the GPS and didn’t see the bus slowed down.
They say she clipped the back of the bus, leaving it with thousands of dollars worth of damage.
Investigators say moments later, a car then rear-ended another car as they came up on the crash scene.
The third and fourth crashes happened minutes after that.
In all, five people were hospitalized, but they are expected to be OK.
No one will be charged.
