FAIRFIELD, Maine — A Fairfield woman faces a murder charge in the death of her infant son, according to a news release from the Maine Department of Public Safety.
Kayla Stewart, 20, was arrested without incident at her home on Route 139 in Fairfield about 4 p.m. Friday, according to Stephen McCausland, state public safety spokesman.
Stewart was taken to the Somerset County Jail.
The newborn’s body reportedly was found on Jan. 11 in the detached garage of the mobile home where Stewart lived with her boyfriend. Authorities said at the time that the baby’s parents had been interviewed and were cooperating with police.
Stewart’s first court appearance is scheduled for 1 p.m. Monday in the Somerset County Courthouse in Skowhegan, McCausland indicated.
Her 3-year-old daughter reportedly is staying with relatives.
