ROCKLAND, Maine — A Rockland man has been charged in connection with the Tuesday night bomb threat called in to the Rockland McDonald’s restaurant.

Carl Adams, 33, was charged with Class C terrorizing following an investigation by Detective Sgt. Russell Thompson, according to a news release from Rockland police. The charge carries a maximum possible penalty of five years in prison.

The terrorizing charge was elevated to a felony level because the threat caused the evacuation of a building.

“We will fully utilize every asset at our disposal to investigate any threats of this nature. Those responsible will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law,” Rockland Police Chief Bruce Boucher said in the release.

Rockland police reported that a man called the local McDonald’s shortly after 6 p.m. Tuesday to say that an explosive device was inside the building and would go off in an hour.

Customers were evacuated and Rockland police posted vehicles at both the Camden Street and Maverick Street entrances to prevent people from going into the parking lot.
