PORTLAND, Maine — Several Maine union members planned to gather in Portland on Saturday afternoon to support the presidential bid of U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders.
Peter Keefe, president of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 2327, described the Vermont senator as “one hundred percent in alignment with what matters most to workers.”
“Bernie has the best track record of all the presidential candidates in voting for and advocating for legislation that is pro-worker and pro-union,” he said in a news release issued Saturday. “He actively supports labor unions and our right to organize and fight for a better future for ourselves and our families.”
Speakers will include National Nurses United Political Director Ken Zinn, State Senate Candidate and former majority leader Troy Jackson and staff from the Bernie Sanders campaign.
Keefe’s organization and National Nurses United have endorsed Sanders for president and are hosting the event, which will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 23, at the Irish Heritage Center at 34 Grey St. in Portland.
