AUGUSTA, Maine — Authorities are investigating a case of alleged animal cruelty involving two dogs in Corinth, officials said Friday.
Liam Hughes, director of Maine’s Animal Welfare Program, said authorities became aware of the situation Friday morning.
Hughes said two coon hounds were removed from a residence when the organization became aware of the case. The animals are safe and at an undisclosed location. The owner of the residence is not being named because no charges have been filed.
“This is an open investigation, and [the] two dogs in question have been removed and are safe,” said Hughes, who did not provide any additional details.
The Animal Welfare Program, state police and Corinth’s animal control officer are handling the investigation.
