CAMDEN, Maine — Local police are investigating a case in which a man failed to pay a cab fare by apparently walking into the unlocked home of a stranger and fleeing.
Camden police received a complaint shortly after 4 a.m. Monday from a cab driver who said a passenger had gotten out in front of a residence on Cobb Road. The passenger said he would go into the house and come back and pay the $18 owed on the fare.
The man did not come out and the cab driver called the police.
An officer responded and knocked on the door and the homeowner, awakened from sleep, answered. The homeowner said no one should have come into his house and police searched, finding no one.
The man was described as middle age, tall and medium build. He also was reported to have been wearing a green coat, which was not found inside the house.
