NAPLES, Maine — A man who was seriously injured in a crash at the Naples Shopping Center has succumbed to his injuries.

The 25-year-old Naples man suffered a serious head injury in a Jan. 25 crash at the Naples Shopping Center. He died over the weekend at Central Maine Medical Center, a Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office official said Monday.

Keegan Eldridge, 25, was traveling on Route 302 around 1:40 a.m. on the day of the crash when his vehicle left the roadway, went into a ditch and hit an embankment at the entrance to the shopping center, Capt. Don Goulet said. Eldridge’s 2010 Volvo station wagon then became airborne and struck a large signpost, causing the car to spin around.

Eldridge, who was the only person in the car, was unconscious when rescue crews arrived.

Deputies said earlier that Eldridge first was taken to Bridgton Hospital with a serious head injury, then was flown by LifeFlight helicopter to Central Maine Medical Center.

Investigators said it appears speed was a factor in the crash and that Eldridge was not wearing his seat belt.
