BANGOR, Maine — Faith Sjoberg of Presque Isle and Luke Carey of Embden captured the top awards at the Maine State Elks Association State Hoop Shoot free throw competition held Sunday at Bangor High School.
Sjoberg, representing Presque Isle Lodge #1954, earned the Alan W. Richard Award, which went to the top overall female shooter, and Carey, representing Skowhegan/Madison Lodge #2531, won the Hon. Amos A. McCallum Award as the top overall male shooter. Both made 22 of their 25 attempts and were the champions in the 10-11 age divisions.
Other division winners were: 8-9 girls — Ellie Legare, representing Lewiston Lodge #371; 8-9 boys — Christopher Keene, representing Portland Lodge #188; 12-13 girls — Alexa Eaton, representing Brunswick Lodge #2043; and 12-13 boys — TJ Folsom, representing Augusta Lodge #964.
All six qualified for the New England Regional Hoop Shoot competition to be held in Portland March 19.
