VEAZIE – Winifred (Winnie) Fennelly, 81, passed away from complications of pneumonia January 30, 2016 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Bangor surrounded by her family. She was born March 23, 1934 in Dennysville to Howard and Barbara (Clark) Dudley and grew up in Ellsworth.
Winnie was a devoted wife to her husband, Thomas and together they would have celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary this June. She was a loving and dedicated, stay at home mom before beginning her career in retail sales. Among her positions in retail, Winnie’s most loved position was that as manager of Mr. Paperback bookstore in Ellsworth where she enjoyed getting to know her customers and working with the books she so loved to read.
Winnie enjoyed camping, fishing, and sitting around a fire, where she made many memories with family and friends at Cranberry Lake, Cobscook Bay State Park and Campobello Island.
She had a passion for knitting and made many beautiful sweaters. Winnie knit hundreds of mittens which she kindly donated to Seacoast Mission of Bar Harbor and local radio stations for needy children. Winnie also enjoyed many happy years traveling to different states and Canada with her husband and wintering in Florida until declining health made it difficult.
In addition to her husband she is survived by her three daughters, Lesley Kane and husband John of Florida, Terry James of Hancock and Kelly Fennelly and companion Eric Hankins of Bangor. She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Chris Brown, Michelle Kane, Joshua Stratton, Zac James and Matt James along with several great grandchildren and a very special cousin and friend, Jean Dudley Mahar of Eastport.
Along with her parents, Winnie was predeceased by her only sibling, Mary Jane Sawyer and her very, special dog Katie.
