WINSLOW, Maine — Five Foxcroft Academy wrestlers won individual titles to help the Ponies capture the Class B North regional championship at Winslow High School Saturday.
Foxcroft rolled up 205.5 points as 10 of its wrestlers finished in the top four in their respective weight classes to qualify for next Saturday’s state championship at Oceanside High School in Rockland.
Ellsworth, which won the regional title last season, placed second with 146 points while Belfast (141.5), Winslow (117) and Oceanside (97) rounded out the top five of 18 scoring teams.
Leading the Ponies with individual North titles were R.J. Nelson (132 pounds), Zach Caron (145), Brandon Brock (195), Michael Pendriss (220) and Connor Holmes (285).
Foxcroft’s Antonio Ayala picked up a second place in the 126-pound division and Billy Brock finished second in 182 while Conner Johnson placed third in 138 and Brandon Weston (106) and Dustin Simmons (152) each recorded a fourth-place finish.
Leading Ellsworth with individual regional titles were Logan Lord (126) and Trenton Goodman (160).
Three Winslow wrestlers, Winslow’s Devon Vigue (113), Ryan Fredette (170), and Patrick Hopkins (182), also captured individual titles.
Other wrestlers winning individual crowns were Oceanside’s Alex Fogarty (106), Maine Central Institute of Pittsfield’s ZyAnthony Moss (120), Medomak Valley of Waldoboro’s Steven Thompson (138) and Belfast’s Jacob Racioppi (152).
