DURHAM, New Hampshire — Tanner Leissner scored 26 points and Ronnel Jordan added 25 to power the University of New Hampshire Wildcats by the University of Maine Black Bears 88-75 in America East men’s basketball action Monday night at Lundholm Gym.
It was the third straight win for the Wildcats and the third straight loss for the Black Bears.
UNH improved to 13-9 overall and 6-3 in America East, and UMaine slipped to 8-15 and 4-6, respectively. The Wildcats took the season series from the Black Bears as they also prevailed 99-91 in Bangor on Jan. 18.
Jordan and Leissner helped the Wildcats control the inside game as Jordan grabbed 11 rebounds and Leissner had nine to help UNH to a 40-29 team advantage. Jaleen Smith chipped in with 12 points and six rebounds. Jordan also had three assists.
Kevin Little scored 23 points to lead the Black Bears, and Shawn Lawton contributed with 19 points and seven rebounds. Aaron Calixte added 12 points.
UNH shot 31 of 60 from the floor (51.7 percent) and held the Black Bears to a 27-for-61 effort (44.3 percent). UNH struggled from the 3-point arc, hitting five of 23 (21.7 percent). UMaine hit 5 of 15 3-pointers (33.3 percent).
The Black Bears return to action when they host UMass Lowell at 4 p.m. Thursday at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor.
