SANFORD, Maine — Two people were arrested Monday in a heroin bust in York County, according to officials.

Christine Butler, 39, and Danny Taylor, 27, both of Sanford, are accused of aggravated heroin trafficking, a Class A offense, according to a statement from Department of Public Safety spokesman Stephen McCausland.

The two have been under investigation over the course of several weeks in connection with a heroin ring out of a Sanford motel room, according to the statement.

Butler was out on bail on three separate drug trafficking charges, and Taylor had an outstanding arrest warrant, the statement said.

A Monday search of their motel room revealed 25 grams of heroin and $3,450 in cash, with the drugs holding a street value of $4,000. Taylor tried to throw a bag out of the motel room as police entered, but the duo were arrested and taken to the York County Jail.

Bail was set at $10,000 cash for Taylor and Butler is being held without bail. Sanford police and the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency handled the arrests.
