DAY BLOCK TOWNSHIP, Maine — A duo from Connecticut were arrested late Wednesday evening on suspicion of importing heroin into Washington County, officials said.

Heath Jones-Sanchez, 24, of Waterbury was charged with trafficking in heroin, a Class B offense, and Hilary Pugrab, 20, of Ellington was charged with possession of Schedule W drugs, Maine Drug Enforcement Agency Cmdr. Peter Arno said.

On Wednesday night, agents from the MDEA’s Ellsworth task force and Calais police garnered information that out of state individuals would be attempting to import heroin into Washington County with the intent to distribute it, Arno said.

The suspects’ vehicle was located along a remote area of Route 9 and pulled over, Arno said. A subsequent search turned up 275 bags of heroin containing 28 grams, which is worth an estimated $10,000, he said.

The MDEA commander added that it’s possible Jones-Sanchez’s charge could be elevated to a Class A offense because of the amount of heroin seized.

Both Jones-Sanchez and Pugrab were taken to the Washington County Jail. Baileyville police, state police and the Washington County Sheriff’s Office aided in the investigation, which is still ongoing.
