CARIBOU, Maine — The combination of accumulating snow along the coast and bitterly cold wind chills throughout the entire state will make for a pure winter weekend.

On Friday morning, the National Weather Service had posted a winter storm watch for Hancock County and southern Penobscot County, with a snow event expected to occur in those areas Friday night into Saturday.

Portions of the coast are expected to get hit the hardest, with about a foot of snow expected, while inland sections of Penobscot County, including the Bangor area, are expected to see less than that.

In addition, much of Maine woke up Friday to bitterly cold wind chills, and those numbers are expected to fall further as the weekend progresses.

Dangerously cold wind chills were expected to arrive Saturday night and into Sunday morning.
