BRUNSWICK, Maine — Two local men were injured Sunday night when a handgun one was displaying to the other fired during a party on Guadalcanal Drive.
“Both of these males were showing each other their firearms,” Brunswick police Cmdr. Marc Hagan said Monday morning. “The 29-year-old from West Bath had emptied his Sig Sauer 9mm handgun and was showing it to the other man. In the process of [putting a bullet back in the chamber], the weapon fired and the round went through the 29-year-old’s hand and then through the leg of the 28-year-old, and then into the refrigerator behind them.”
Citing an ongoing investigation, Hagan declined to release either man’s name.
The West Bath man who suffered a gunshot wound to the hand was taken to Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick. The Brunswick man, who suffered a gunshot wound to the leg, was taken to Maine Medical Center in Portland.
Hagan said neither wound was considered life-threatening.
At least seven people were at the gathering, and had been drinking, when police were called just before 9 p.m., according to Hagan.
