GRAND RAPIDS, Michigan — Grand Rapids snapped Maine’s season-best six-game winning streak with a 112-107 victory over the Red Claws in NBA D-League action Monday night.
The Red Claws (20-14) lost for the first time in the month of February (6-1).
Coty Clarke finished with 20 points and 8 rebounds to lead the Red Claws, while Omari Johnson added 19 points, and Levi Randolph poured in 18 points off the bench.
Maine picked up right where it left off Saturday in Delaware. The Claws opened the game on an 11-1 run, surging to an easy first-quarter lead. Randolph’s free throws at the end of the quarter gave Maine a comfortable 35-18 lead after one.
In the second quarter, Grand Rapids got it to single digits, but Clarke and Walden went on a 5-0 run to maintain control. At the break, the Red Claws had a 61-51 lead.
The second half was a different story. Unlike the past several games, the Red Claws struggled to score, totaling just 46 points in the third and fourth quarters.
Grand Rapids cut the deficit to three going into the final period (83-80). The Drive took their first lead of the game in the fourth quarter at 87-85. Randolph would set up Clarke for an alley-oop to tie the game at 93, and Randolph’s lay-in gave Maine the lead on a 6-0 run.
The Claws only had nine turnovers in the game, but some of their most costly ones came down the stretch, as Grand Rapids capitalized and put the game away at the free throw line.
Devin Ebanks led all scorers with 22 points, while Dahntay Jones added 21 points, and Kelsey Barlow 20 for the Drive.
