UNION – Leatrice E. (Cunningham) Burns, 91, died February 22, 2016. She was born in Searsmont, Maine, on January 19, 1925, the daughter of Frank W. Cunningham and Elizabeth (Robbins) Cunningham.
She was raised in Searsmont and attended schools in Belfast. She married Harry Burns on February 10, 1950, in Belfast. Leatrice worked for many years at her close friend and confidant’s long term care facility (Hill’s Nursing Home) in Union, Maine. She loved dancing and cooking and was known far and wide for her delicious donuts. She was a lifelong member of the Order of Eastern Star, Pioneer Grange, Union Senior Citizens and the American Legion Auxiliary.
Leatrice was predeceased by her husband, Harry M. Burns; her much loved brother-in-law, Wilber Waterman; and special niece, Elizabeth Doyle. She is survived by her son, James A. Burns and wife, Marilyn, of Union, ME; daughter, Zettie L. Matthews of Union, ME; sister, Leona Waterman of Belmont, ME; granddaughter, Gina M. Froment and husband, Frank, of Northfield, MA; grandson, Glenwood E. Burns and wife, Stephany, of Englewood, CO; granddaughter, Laura L. Lemont and husband, Don, of South Portland, ME; special niece, Lucille Griffin and husband, Dale, of Warren, ME; and great-granddaughters, Kate M. Lee and husband, Aaron, of Mount Laurel, NJ, and Emily A. Abel of Lafayette, IN.
Visiting hours will be Thursday, February 25, 2016, from 4-6 p.m. at Hall’s of Waldoboro, 949 Main Street, Waldoboro, Maine. A celebration of Leatrice’s life will be Friday, February 26, 2016, at 1 p.m. at Hall’s of Waldoboro. Burial will be at a later date in Lakeview Cemetery in Union.
