AUGUSTA, Maine — A judge in Augusta sentenced Wade Hoover to 60 years behind bars after he pleaded guilty to four counts of gross sexual assault.

Hoover is currently serving a 40-year federal sentence for possession of child pornography. This 60-year sentence will be served concurrent to the federal sentence.

He was charged with 13 counts of gross sexual assault, but that number was reduced to four as a result of a plea bargain.

Both the state and a victim’s mother asked the judge to make sure Hoover spends the rest of his life in prison.

The defense said Hoover should have received a lighter sentence, because he has been cooperative through this process, was once an upstanding member of the community, and brought up his military service.

If Hoover is released from custody at some point in the future, the judge sentenced him to a lifetime of state supervision.
