The quests for gold balls tip off Friday night at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor with high school basketball girls and boys state finals scheduled in Class B.
The bulk of the state-final schedule is slated for Saturday with Classes C and D titles on the line at the Augusta Civic Center, and Class A and AA championships will be decided at the Cross Insurance Arena in Portland.
On Friday, Houlton (20-1) takes on Gray-New Gloucester (17-4) in the girls state final at 7 p.m., followed by Ellsworth (17-4) against Lake Region of Naples (19-2) in the boys game at 8:45 p.m.
On Saturday, the Class D girls state final begins a four-game day when Shead of Eastport (15-6) battles Rangeley (20-1) at 1 p.m., followed by the boys game between Valley of Bingham (19-0) and Easton (19-2) at 2:45 p.m.
The Class C games take over for the evening session, featuring Narraguagus (18-2) against Boothbay (20-1) in the girls final at 7 p.m. and George Stevens Academy of Blue Hill (19-1) vs. Waynflete of Portland (19-2) in the boys championship at 8:45 p.m.
In Portland, the Class A championships will begin a four-game day with Lawrence of Fairfield (21-0) battling York (21-0) in the girls final at 1 p.m., followed by No. 5 Oceanside of Rockland/Thomaston (16-5) against Falmouth (17-4) in the boys championship at 3 p.m.
The first-ever Class AA state finals will be decided during the evening session when Edward Little of Auburn (16-4) takes on Gorham (20-0) in the girls title game at 6 p.m., followed by Portland (19-1) against South Portland (12-9) in the boys championship at 9 p.m.
