ROXBURY, Maine — A Rumford woman walking along Route 17 Saturday morning was struck and killed by an alleged drunken driver, according to police.

Cailin M. Currivan, 26, died after she was hit by a passing pickup truck around 3:30 a.m., the Oxford County Sheriff’s Department said in a statement issued Saturday.

The driver of the pickup was Kyle Kennedy, 22, of Rumford, police said. He was arrested on a charge of operating a motor vehicle under the influence of intoxicants.

The crash was reported to police at 3:43 a.m., according to the statement. The road was closed for several hours following the collision while police investigated and reconstructed the crash.

The highway has since be reopened to traffic, the statement indicated.

Fire departments from Rumford and Mexico assisted the sheriff’s department at the scene, as did Med-Care Ambulance personnel and a crash reconstructionist with Maine State Police.

“This incident remains under investigation, and the case will be presented to the Oxford County District Attorney for review,” the statement read.

Additional information about the crash was unavailable Saturday afternoon.
