FREEPORT, Maine — Hunter Road near Interstate 295 was closed for several hours Monday morning after a Downeast Energy fuel truck rolled down a hill and struck a patch of oak trees.
Freeport fire and police were called at 8:30 a.m. to the area of 30 Hunter Road, where the southbound truck carrying 600 gallons of off-road diesel and 200 gallons of heating oil was stuck, Freeport Fire Chief Darrel Fournier said.
Although the cab of the truck was destroyed, the driver — whose name was not available Monday afternoon — was uninjured, according to Fournier.
About a gallon of oil used by the truck’s engine leaked onto the road, but Fournier said none of the oil carried by the truck leaked, although the Maine Department of Environmental Protection did check the site.
Two large wreckers removed the truck and the road was reopened by 11:15 a.m., Fournier said.
