WILLINGTON, Connecticut — A Maine pair was arrested after several thousand dollars, plus meth and other drugs, were found in their SUV during a traffic stop, state police said.
Driver Rhiannon Welch, 38, of Brunswick and passenger Wesley St. Pierre, 34, of Kittery Point were charged with possession of narcotics, possession with intent to sell, conspiracy to commit possession with intent to sell and other drug-related charges.
In addition, Welch was charged with failure to maintain proper lane and stop at a stop sign, and St. Pierre was charged with identity theft.
According to police, a trooper noticed that the SUV, which was headed east on Interstate 84, was not staying in its lane. When the vehicle got off the highway at Exit 71, the driver allegedly failed to stop at the stop sign at the end of the ramp.
After talking to the occupants, the trooper determined that he had reason to search the SUV.
Troopers allegedly found numerous pieces of drug paraphernalia and marijuana and later discovered what police called “a large amount of suspected methamphetamine.”
A drug-sniffing police dog found more items that point to a possible drug-selling operation, state police said, including several thousand dollars in a piece of luggage.
Police said that money is “suspected to be profits from narcotic sales.”
Police were applying for a warrant to open a locked safe in the SUV.
