As more people sell items through Facebook groups Craigslist and other websites, more people are worrying about the safety of meeting up with strangers to buy and sell.

Whether you’re afraid of being ripped off or don’t like the idea of inviting strangers to your home, something about buying a stroller or a TV from a stranger on the Internet can be a little weird.

One Maine police department has offered a solution. The Paris Police Department in Western Maine announced on Facebook on Monday that anyone buying or selling online is welcome to use their lobby during business hours and the parking lot after closing to take advantage of the security camera and nearby officers.

It’s an approach police departments nationwide have begun to meet people’s needs as more people buy and sell online. It’s also a good security check. If someone isn’t comfortable meeting you in a police station lobby, you probably don’t want to do business with them in the first place.
