MOUNT VERNON, Maine — State police are asking for the public’s help in finding three people who broke into Flying Pond Variety Store on Route 41 in Mount Vernon Thursday night.

Two men and possibly a young woman broke into the store shortly after 10 p.m. and made off with four bottles of liquor — including rum, “moonshine” and two brands of vodka — and a dozen packs of cigarettes, Maine Department of Public Safety spokesman Stephen McCausland said in a news release.

They entered the store after breaking a window, likely with a hammer, according to police. The group drove away in a silver sedan with damage to the passenger’s side headlight area.

Images revealed that one of the suspects had cuts on his left arm and back, as well as a tattoo on his forearm that read “1976.” The man had taken off his shirt and used it to cover his head and face.

Anyone with information is asked to call state police at 1-800-452-4664 or 624-7076.
