READFIELD, Maine — A local teenager has been charged with burglary and theft in connection with a home invasion on Plains Road, according to police.
Police responded to a call from the residence shortly after 2 a.m. Monday when it was learned the 16-year-old male suspect, whose name was withheld, had broken into the home while the residents were sleeping, according to a statement from the Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office.
A homeowner called 911 after discovering the teenager in the basement, and the suspect escaped after rummaging through the victim’s home and unlocked vehicle, according to the statement.
An investigation led police to the suspect, who admitted that he was involved and was subsequently arrested.
The teen will appear in Kennebec Unified Court at a later date.
