WESTBROOK, Maine — A local transient is being sought after he recently escaped from a psychiatric treatment facility, police said.

Maurice Pelissier, 41, who has ties to southern Maine and New Hampshire, was last seen on Andover Road around 9 Wednesday morning, according to a statement from Westbrook police.

Pelissier was recently committed to the treatment center against his will, and fled soon after, the statement said.

Pelissier is a white man who stands 6 feet 2 inches tall, weighs 225 pounds and has hazel eyes and brown hair. He was last seen wearing a gray fleece coat, green cargo pants or brown shorts, flip-flops and wool socks.

Police are urging the public not to approach Pelissier and to call 911 for assistance or the Westbrook Police Department, because he is a danger to himself and potentially others.

Anybody with information should call Westbrook police at 854-0644.
