SOUTH BERWICK, Maine — Police have charged two suspects in connection with several daytime residential burglaries.

Each is being charged in connection with separate incidents. Police said there has been no direct connection discovered between the two suspects.

According to a news release, the South Berwick Police Department obtained arrest warrants for Zachary Roy, 25, of York, and Matthew Temple, 34, of Rochester.

Roy is charged with Class B burglary and is in Rockingham County Jail in Brentwood, New Hampshire, awaiting extradition.

Temple is also charged with Class B burglary and in Strafford County Jail in Dover, New Hampshire, awaiting extradition.

Police said the charges were the result of a two-month investigation into daytime residential burglaries, which had taken place throughout the community. The first reported break-in was Jan. 14.

Roy was arrested in New Hampshire on March 9 in connection with felony drug possession. In addition he is being charged with burglary of a dwelling for incidents which occurred on Mountain Road in South Berwick on Jan. 25 and Feb. 12, the release states.

Temple was initially arrested in New Hampshire on Feb. 12 for criminal activity in that state. Stolen property recovered as the result of that arrest led South Berwick police to charge Temple with the Jan. 22 burglary of an Academy Street dwelling.

Police said they anticipate additional charges against both individuals.

The South Berwick Police Department received “vital cooperation and assistance from neighboring law enforcement agencies,” including Berwick, York, and Wells police departments, Maine Probation and Parole and Maine DEA; as well as police departments in Dover, Portsmouth, and Rochester, New Hampshire, the release said.

“We (police) would also like to express our sincere appreciation to the residents of South Berwick for all of the information and tips brought forward,” the release said.
