BREWER, Maine — Several hundred people attended the Way of the Cross Community Procession held by St. Paul the Apostle Parish through Brewer and Bangor on Sunday.

A University of Maine graduate student, Matthew Valles, portrayed Jesus, carrying a large wooden cross from St. Joseph’s Church on North Main Street in Brewer to St. John’s Church on York Street in Bangor. The procession included about 80 church members who took onlookers through Christ’s condemnation, crucifixion and death.

Prayers, readings and enactments based on the 14 traditional Stations of the Cross were performed along the way. It was the fifth annual Way of the Cross procession offered by the St. Paul the Apostle Parish, which consists of the Catholic churches in Bangor, Brewer, Hampden and Winterport.
