BANGOR, Maine — Investigators on Thursday spent much of the day combing through a Hammond Street business that was heavily damaged by fire on Wednesday night.
Officials with the state fire marshal’s office were on scene at 543 Hammond St. Thursday working to pinpoint a cause, according to Bangor Assistant Fire Chief Darrell Cyr.
“Hopefully we’ll get to the bottom of it,” Cyr said Thursday afternoon.
City firefighters were called to Rice/Allied Glass around 10:45 Wednesday night, and crews were able to keep the fire from spreading to a nearby building.
Cyr said it’s highly unlikely officials would determine a cause by the end of the day Thursday. He added it’s too early in the investigation to say whether or not the blaze was suspicious.
An empty apartment in the same building as the business received water and smoke damage.
