BANGOR — on Saturday, Robert Graff and Brandon Reilly combined in a three-hit shutout as the Husson University Eagles beat the Norwich University Cadets 7-0 in the first game on the way to a doubleheader sweep in baseball action Saturday at the Winkin Complex.
Husson took the second game 7-1.
In the opener, Graff allowed two hits over three innings, then Reilly gave up on hit in the last four frames. Andrew Curran doubled and tripled with an RBI and Mike Wong (RBI) singled twice for Husson (5-5). Conor Maguire hit a two-run double.
Starter Kaleb Smith allowed six hits and four runs in four innings.
In Game 2, J.T. Whitten’s two-run single was the key blow in a five-run second inning that carried the Eagles to victory.
Julien Boone singled twice with an RBI and Cam Archer tripled and knocked in two runs for Husson. Dan Whitney spaced four hits and a run over three innings to notch the win in relief of Ben Walls, who pitched a one-hitter over the first four innings.
John Flanagan provided an RBI single for Norwich.
UMF 12, Saint Joseph’s 9
At Auburndale, Florida, Dustin McCrossin plated four runs with two doubles and two singles and the Beavers erupted for a seven-run eighth inning to rally past the Monks.
Grayson Beressi doubled and singled with two RBIs and Sean Cabaniss and Jordan Croteau each provided two singles and an RBI for the University of Maine-Farmington (3-0). Jory Humphrey pitched 3⅓ innings of relief to gain the win.
Jameson Collins cranked a three-run home run and two sacrifice flies to spark Saint Joseph’s of Standish (5-6). Taylor Reuillard rapped a double and two singles and Nic Lops had a double and two RBIs. Reliever Marc Poirier took the loss.
Softball
RIC sweeps Husson
At Providence, Rhode Island, Nicole Venturini collected a triple, a double and a single with two RBIs to push Rhode Island College to an 11-3, five-inning victory over Husson University of Bangor in the first game of a doubleheader on Saturday.
Rhode Island College won the second game 11-6.
In the opener, Mary Sweeney doubled and singled for the 8-2 hosts and Briana Gough worked around 13 hits and three walks to get the win.
Nicole Andrade singled three times with two RBIs for the Eagles (2-12), while Lyndsay Merrill and Allison Hill each hit a double and a single and knocked in a run to support starter and losing pitcher Courtney MacIntyre.
In the first game, Lauren Duvall hit a three-run homer, a triple and an RBI single to pace the hosts. Venturini plated three runs with a two-run single and a sac fly, while Kelsey Burgess tripled twice with two RBIs. Katelyn McCaughey took the win in the circle.
Merrill tripled and singled with two RBIs to head Husson. Andrade doubled in support of losing pitcher Alannah Healy.
Men’s Lacrosse
Husson 12, Lyndon 5
At Bangor on Saturday, Brandon Corbo tallied three goals and three assists as the Eagles earned a North Atlantic Conference win over the Hornets.
Jack White scored three times and Brooks Gay notched two goals and two assists for Husson (1-5). Blake Campbell, Brandon Bosse, Brett Martin and Tom Hart netted a goal apiece while Matt Martin and Nick Zavorotny each made five saves.
Zachary Carey scored twice for Lyndon State (0-4). Kevin McCarthy, Spencer Austin and Adam Peeler connected for a goal apiece, while Shane Morin and Marcus Bessette combined for 15 saves.
MMA 16, Green Mountain 7
At Castine on Saturday, the Mariners claimed a North Atlantic Conference win behind three goals and four assists from Dean Samuelson.
Brendan Broderick had four goals and an assist and Alex Grant-Roy posted three goals and an assist for Maine Maritime Academy (1-5). Michael Martel scored twice, while Tim Grant, Michael Dedian, Chase Whittemore and Zachary Doucette pitched in with two goals apiece. Cody Schell made seven saves.
David Gerken (assist), Will Durant and Brendan McKenna connected for two goals each for Green Mountain College (0-6). Arun Falk made 16 saves.
NEC 21, UM-Farmington 1
At Henniker, New Hampshire, Matt Richards piled up five goals and four assists while Skyler Saunders came up with four goals and six assists as the Pilgrims handed the Beavers in a North Atlantic Conference game on Saturday.
Sean Largay tallied three goals and an assist for New England College (2-5, 1-0 NAC). William Platt and Daniel Tibbrine combined to make five saves.
Travis St. Pierre scored an unassisted goal for the University of Maine-Farmington (0-4, 0-1 NAC). Caleb Carr made 24 saves.
Women’s Lacrosse
Green Mountain 11, MMA 5
At Castine on Saturday, the Eagles scored seven second-half goals to pull away for the North Atlantic Conference victory.
Megan Scully racked up four goals and four assists for Green Mountain College (2-4) with Rachel Aramburu notching three and Martha Howe netting two. Chelsea Wimble made five saves.
Rachael Redles and Christina Wilson led Maine Maritime Academy (0-5) with two goals each and Mary Shea added one. Sierra James made nine stops.
Colby-Sawyer 14, Husson 4
At Bangor on Saturday, Caitlyn Whearty connected for six goals to carry the Chargers to a North Atlantic Conference victory.
Nicole Lavigne scored four times and Sara Berry tallied two for Colby-Sawyer (2-4), which got a 12-save performance from Meghan Castellano.
For 1-3 Husson, Amanda Deshaies (assist), Alissa Fallon, Brooke Quirion and Mariah Carrier scored one goal apiece. Kaitlin Dolloff registered 11 saves.
NEC 19, UMF 2
At Henniker, New Hampshire, Allison Granata’s four-goal, three-assist performance carried the Pilgrims to a North Atlantic Conference win over the Beavers on Saturday.
Gabriella Bigos and Tara Bainbridge each registered three goals and an assist for New England College (3-4, 1-0 NAC), while Alana Scott (2 assists), Alyssa Chartier and Elizabeth Bois picked up two goals apiece. Mackenzie Meegan made eight saves.
Jaclyn Langevin and Sierra Gilley provided the goals for the University of Maine-Farmington (2-2, 0-1 NAC). Alyssa Arsenault came up with five saves.
