HAMDEN, Connecticut — Molly Flowers scattered four hits and struck out 13 in the second game, leading the Maine Black Bears to a 3-1 victory and a sweep of their softball doubleheader of the Quinnipiac Bobcats on Saturday.

UMaine won the opener 9-2.

Maine improved to 10-11 while Quinnipiac slipped to 9-14.

In the second game, Flowers held Quinnipiac in check, posting her sixth win in 11 decisions. Maddie Decker paced the offense with a solo home run and a single, while Alyssa Derrick added an RBI single and Rachel Carlson doubled.

Derrick’s run-scoring hit in the third provided the eventual winning run.

Pinch hitter Erin Larsen stroked an RBI double in the sixth for the Bobcats to support losing pitcher Casey Herzog, who gave up six hits and struck out nine.

In the opener, Felicia Lennon rapped an RBI double and a run-scoring single among 12 hits as the Black Bears prevailed.

Derrick posted three singles and an RBI, while Janelle Bouchard and Sarah Coyne each singled twice. Erin Bogdanovich pitched four innings of three-hit shutout relief with four strikeouts and a walk to preserve an early one-run lead.

Sydney Robey and Herzog led Quinnipiac with a double, a single and an RBI and Keilani Finley singled twice.

The Black Bears return to action at 2 p.m. Wednesday for a doubleheader against the University of Rhode Island in Kingston.
