Portland police have identified the patient who died Tuesday evening after falling from a sixth floor window at Maine Medical Center in Portland.

In a late morning news release, Assistant Chief Vernon Malloch identified the patient as Paul Cady, 43, of Hollis.

“He died at about 5:10 pm after either falling or jumping from a sixth floor window,” the release stated, in part. “The circumstances around the death are still under investigation but are not considered suspicious.”

Malloch said no additional details are being released about the incident.

Local ABC affiliate WMTW reported that the patient fell from a window in the hospital facility’s Richards Tower.

“Our thoughts go out first and foremost to the individual’s family during this very difficult time, as well as our shocked and deeply saddened staff,” read a statement issued to WMTW by the hospital. “While the investigation is ongoing, all of our thoughts are focused on the individual, their family, and others impacted by this tragic event.”
