BANGOR, Maine — The Husson University athletic department along with the Eagles football program is pleased to announce the 1st Annual Stephen Colvin Memorial Powerlifting Competition on Saturday, April 30.

The competition, which is open to all who wish to participate, will be held beginning at 9 a.m. at Husson’s Newman Gymnasium. The proceeds will benefit the Stephen W. Forrest Colvin Memorial Scholarship Fund.

Colvin, a 2011 graduate of Hoosick Falls (New York) Central School, attended Husson, where he was a member of the football team. He died on Feb. 14, 2014, as the result of a skiing accident at Sugarloaf in Carrabassett Valley.

The powerlifting competition will consist of three lifts: Squat, bench and deadlift. Lifters will pay a $20 entry fee and must be present 30 minutes before their division is scheduled to lift for a weigh-in and review of rules.

A Husson press release said Colvin was an example of what a teammate should be, and he was loved by all his teammates at Hoosick Falls and at Husson University. He lived life to the fullest and wanted those around him to do the same.

Those qualities inspired his friends, family and community to make the Stephen W. Forrest Colvin Scholarship Fund a reality. The fund will assist those with dreams of playing college sports, honoring one male and one female candidate chosen each year.

For more information, or to register, email KingCa@husson.edu with the attached registration form. Participants must be registered by April 24.
