SOUTHPORT, Maine — A harbor seal was rescued from Christmas Cove in Southport last week. He was entangled in monofilament fishing line, according to Marine Mammals of Maine.
The material was wrapped around the little guy’s neck. It was digging into his skin, causing infection.
Marine Mammals of Maine says the seal was also suffering from a severe respiratory infection.
He was brought to the Marine Mammals of Maine center in Harpswell, where they removed the line.
He was later transported from Harpswell to Mystic Aquarium in Connecticut.
Marine Mammals of Maine say they are hopeful he will make a full recovery. Once he recovers he will be released back into the ocean.
