ROCKLAND, Maine — Police are investigating a fire that was set on floats stored in the parking lot of a waterfront restaurant and marina.

Fire Chief Adam Miceli said crews responded shortly before 5 a.m. Thursday and found the fire was smoldering and was limited to a small size on a stack of floats in the parking lot of the Landings located in the central waterfront.

He said that because of the location of the fire and lack of any other possible ignition source, it was determined to have been set by someone.

The fire department called in the Rockland criminal investigative division, which is conducting the probe, the chief said. Sgt. Donald Finnegan said Friday the investigation is ongoing.
