Someone jumped the White House fence late Friday night and was quickly taken into custody, the Secret Service said.

The jumper went over the fence about 11:45 p.m. on the north side of the grounds after first throwing a backpack over, the Secret Service said in a brief statement released Saturday.

The intruder was charged with unlawful entry and turned over to the D.C. police, the Secret Service said.

The intruder was not identified and the contents of the backpack not disclosed.

The Secret Service statement said the White House complex had “returned to normal operations.”
